Patents Pending Musicians Still Working

August 12, 2008

The musicians of Patents Pending are still working and taking care of business with other musical projects that span throughout the musical spectrum in the FM area. While Patents is only doing special work at this time (weddings and parties), the musicians continue to do what they love the most- play! Helena Handbasket is doing some work mainly at the Nestor. Hanson continues to work with Fat Daddy's and the FM Jazz Arts Group as well as with the area's only Salsa band, Salsa del Fargo. Russ is still working with the Green Room, a local Bluegrass band. Tanya continues to teach private lessons in the area. Eddie is still taking on freelance work while doing sound work for other bands and ensembles in the area. Jessy is also finding some freelance work here and there as he finishes up his music education degree.



Patents Pending Adds a New Years Eve Show

Patents Pending has added a special New Years Eve show at the Fargo Legion to its list of committments for 2007. The show will feature the entire seven-piece band on stage in the basement bar. No details have been cemented for the show as far as cover and such goes, but do know that Patents will perform once again at their "home bar" in Fargo!



New Band Plans

September 23, 2007


Coming soon to a bar near you will be a new band that will perform face-melting rock, punk, and ska. Helena Handbasket was the chosen name for the band featuring the remaining members of Patents Pending. While Patents Pending will not be going away, Helena Handbasket will be a band that will be aiming to rock out local bars in the Fargo-Moorhead area. The band is headed up by saxophonist and vocalist Eddie Schwind and bassist and lead arranger Christopher Hanson. The band will continue to work to put together a rocking show, and will hopefully perform their first show sometime within the next two to three months. Keep your eyes open for this band!



Jennifer Schwind is Home

June 20, 2007


Lead vocalist Eddie Schwind has been waiting a long time for this, but finally, his wife, Jennifer, has returned home from a tour in Iraq with the 129th MPAD out of Bismarck. Jennifer functioned as a journalist with the unit and spent a portion of time in Florida and a lot of time all over the Middle East. She departed in April of 2006, and returned on the 16th of June. If you know Eddie and Jennifer, please make sure you welcome them home!



Tanya Gets Married

June 4, 2007


Trumpet player and member of Patents Pending, Tanya Matthies, is now Tanya Beseler! On June 2nd, Tanya and her husband, Aaron (who has also performed gigs in the past with Patents Pending) were married on the family farm in Worthington, Minnesota. The remaining members of the band were all in attendance, and performed for the dance. Congratulate Aaron and Tanya and give them your best wishes!



Caleb Mott to Move West

February 16, 2007


Please wish Caleb Mott your best wishes as he prepares to move out west to Washington where he will take up a new job working on cars. He has been a valuable asset to Patents Pending over the past handful of months, and has also contributed very much to his own fusion and funk band, Beatdown. We'll miss his funky lines in Patents Pending.



Beat-Down to Perform Final Show at Lauerman's

The short but effective legacy of Beat-Down will come to a close on Saturday, February 24th at Lauerman's. The show starts at 9:00pm, and there is no cover for this 21 and over show. Come out and enjoy one last show with this funky group as they bid farewell to Caleb Mott, who is departing for out west. Celebrate the New Year with Patents Pending

Celebrate the end of 2006 and the start of 2007 with Patents Pending. The band will play three nights at the Otter Supper Club and Lounge in Ottertail, Minnesota starting Friday the 29th, going through New Year's Eve. If you're in the lakes area, or if you just want to make the travel out, come check out the band- the true FM horn band that loves to rock and party!.

Best Wishes to Craig Hillig, and a Big Welcome to Caleb Mott

The members of Patents Pending would like to wish the best of luck to Craig Hillig. Craig has been the bass player in Patents since it's reinvention about a year ago and has contributed much to the band, helping mold and create a different kind of sound that has entertained many in the Fargo-Moorhead area, as well as in North Dakota and Minnesota. Craig has chosen to move on, as he is very busy with work, his family, and his Graduate Program with the University of Mary. Best wishes for continued musical success to Craig Hillig.


The band now welcomes Caleb Mott as a permanent member of the band. Caleb brings many years of experience in performing in several rock, funk, and jam bands in the area. His expertise will only aid Patents as they continue to rock out all over the area.



Beat-Down to Perform at The Nestor

Beat-Down, a local funk and fusion band, will perform on Thursday night, November 16th at The Nestor. The band is made up of five of the finest and funkiest souls in the city. The group also features a good portion of the members of Patents Pending- Josh Maynard (guitar), Eddie Schwind (saxophone), and Russ Pfaff (drums). Former Patents Pending Member Engaged

Original member of Patents Pending and former trumpet player, Dan Johnson, announced his engagement this week. On Wednesday, Dan proposed to Kirsten Solomonson, and much to all of our relief, she accepted! No date has been planned for the wedding at this time. Please join the rest of the current lineup of Patents Pending in sending out your congratulations to Dano and Kirsten.



Caleb Mott to Perform with Patents

November 15, 2006


Caleb Mott will join Patents Pending for a number of upcoming shows to give Craig Hillig a break while he works on his Masters Degree. You may know Caleb from such local bands as Beat-Down and SOL. He has functioned as the Patents Pending sound man for the past few months. Mott will be an amazing addition to the band, bringing fifteen years of rock and roll experience with him.



Patents Pending Horn Players Play with Claudio Rotidi

November 13, 2006


Three horn players of Patents Pending took the stage at the Fargo Theatre on November 11th to perform with jazz pro Claudio Rotidi, a Brazilian-born trumpet performer. Eddie Schwind (tenor saxophone), Jessy Klimpel (alto saxophone), and Christopher Hanson (trombone) all performed with the FM Jazz Arts Group that evening, backing up the Latin legend. Schwind and Hanson were also honored that evening with solos during a tribute to our veterans of the Armed Services.

Eddie Schwind (saxophone), Christopher Hanson (trombone), and Jessy Klimpel (saxophone), all members of the horn section of Patents Pending, will perform with the Fargo-Moorhead Jazz Arts Group Big Band this Saturday, backing up one of the finest jazz and be-bop saxophonists of all time. Jimmy Heath will make a stop in Fargo to perform at the Fargo Theatre with the local pro big band. Heath has been an icon in the jazz scene for over fifty years. In addition to performing with his two brothers for a number of years, Heath has performed with countless other jazz stars to include Dizzy Gillespie, Miles Davis, and Wynton Marsalis just to name a few. Join Dr. Kyle Mack, the director of the JAG Band, along with the big band at the Fargo Theatre this Saturday night (September 16) at 8:00pm.

Patents Pending Announces the Arrival of Another Member

Patents Pending will take another step towards thickening up the sound of band as they announce the arrival of a new bass player. Craig Hillig will become the newest member of the band, while Christopher will move from bass to his instrument of true emphasis, trombone. Craig comes to the band after several years of playing on the Bismarck-Mandan scene. He is currently living in Fargo with his wife and thre kids.

Go check out some modern and traditional jazz at Dempsey's on Friday night, May 12th from 7:00pm-10:00pm. Patents Pending members Tim Stine (guitar) and Christopher Hanson (bass) will meet up with local musicians Joel Thompson (drums) and Josh Argall (saxophone) to perform three hours of live energetic jazz. There is no cover for the show, although you must be 21 or over to attend the show.



Patents Pending Announces a Personnel Change

With the future departure of lead guitarist, Tim Stine, the band has announed a replacement on the lead guitar role. Josh Maynard will begin cycling in with the band in the very near future. Josh has played around the FM area with several rock bands, as well as with a fusion jazz group. Look for Josh to be playing soon!



Patents Pending Lead Guitarist to Attend Grad School


May 10, 2006


Patents Pending guitarist Tim Stine has been accepted to graduate school in Cincinatti, and will be leaving the area in August to pursue a masters in jazz guitar performance. Stine is an original member of the band, and has performed since 2001. His wife, Ruth Meberg, will also be attending graduate school at Cincinatti in the area of arts administration. Both received undergraduate degrees from Minnesota State University- Moorhead. The band wishes both Tim and Ruth the best of luck in the future. You will both be missed in the Fargo-Moorhead area.



Members of Patents Pending Playing A Chorus Line


February 15, 2006


Three members of Patents Pending will be performing in the pit orchestra for the presentation of A Chorus Line, being performed by Little Country Theatre at North Dakota State University. Christopher Hanson will be playing trombone along with Tim Stine on guitar and Eddie Schwind on flute, clarinet, and alto saxophone. The show will be running from February 15th through February 19th at Festival Concert Hall. The Wednesday through Saturday shows start at 7:30pm, while the Sunday show begins at 2:00pm. The Chris Hanson Group Adds a February Appearance

The Chris Hanson Group has been added to a packed lineup of local musicians and bands performing for the Fargo Winter Carnivale, which will be taking place at the Fargo Theatre on Saturday, February 25th. The Chris Hanson Group will open the show at 2:00pm, performing one set of hard-charging modern jazz charts. The event is being organized by Ruth Meberg. Ruth is the wife of guitarist Tim Stine. Join a handful of the members of Patents Pending at the Doublewood Inn Lounge on Thursday, February 23rd and hear a variety of different styles of live music ranging from jazz and blues to rock. The group is headed up by Patents co-front man, Christopher Hanson, and features Eddie Schwind (saxophone), Tim Stine (guitar), and Russ Pfaff (drums). There's no cover to get in, but you must be 21 to enter the bar. Come out for some great music and cheap drinks from 7:00pm-10:00pm.
